Our Courses

Janet Thomas earned her Master’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and the company started offering classes in a couple of cities.  Now it offers over 700 onsite Food Manager classes a year, across the Midwest, and online across the entire United States.

The first major expansion started in 1990 when she incorporated and started her own food safety training company and began offering classes throughout Illinois. Instructional materials include a Comprehensive Certified Food Protection Manager training manual which is currently in its 23rd edition and is widely accepted by most State, County and local health departments.

Food Manager as well as Food Handler, Allergen Awareness, Sexual Harassment, Alcohol Seller/Server, Tobacco, and Mandated Reporter courses for certification are now offered both in the classroom and online nationwide.

Today, the Safe Food Handlers staff consists of over 25 food safety instructors from backgrounds in Dietetics, Food and Nutrition, Family and Consumer Science, Dietary Management, Food Service Management and Environmental Health Professionals. The company now offers classes nationwide and has taught thousands of food service professionals in over 70,000 businesses and continues to grow each year. Students completing the Safe Food Handlers course have achieved a passing rate of 92%, with an average score of 86% on the National Registry of Food Service Professionals and the Always Food Safe Company’s accredited examinations.
